Meaning and Roots

Ar-Razzaq is the Provider — the One who creates all means of sustenance and delivers them to every creature that exists. The root *r-z-q* refers to *rizq*: provision, sustenance, anything beneficial that Allah grants a creature to sustain its life. The intensive form *Razzaq* indicates that this provision is vast, repeated, and continuous — moment by moment, to every being, without interruption. *Rizq* is far broader than money; it includes food and water, knowledge, health, faith, contentment, righteous companionship, and every good thing.

The Provider of Every Creature

The scope of Ar-Razzaq is total. *"And there is no creature on earth but that upon Allah is its provision"* (Qur'an 11:6). From the whale in the deepest ocean to the ant beneath a stone, no living thing feeds itself by its own power; each is fed by Ar-Razzaq through means He has arranged. Qur'anic Evidence

Allah declares the name explicitly, and joins it to His strength: *"Indeed, it is Allah who is the Provider, the firm possessor of strength (Inna Allaha huwa ar-Razzaqu dhul-quwwati al-matin)"* (Qur'an 51:58). The pairing matters — His provision is backed by unfailing power; He never runs short and never fails to deliver what He has decreed.

Provision and Trust (Tawakkul)

Allah ties provision to God-consciousness and trust: *"And whoever fears Allah — He will make for him a way out, and will provide for him from where he does not expect"* (Qur'an 65:2–3). The Prophet ﷺ said, *"If you relied upon Allah with true reliance, He would provide for you as He provides for the birds: they go out hungry in the morning and return full in the evening"* (Jami' at-Tirmidhi 2344).
